"eNneagon" review @ Corazine

Author: GORAN

Ledo Takas usually sends me brilliant pagan/black metal, and Stranger Aeons clearly isn't quite fitting into the picture here. "eNneagon" is a blend of soft metal and solid rock, topped off with female vocals.
This sextet has some tensely gripping moments; I'm mostly talking about the synth and instrumental passages. Edita's vocals are on the spot, but a little too prim when it comes to timbre. She can put raw emotion in her lines, which are a welcome but rare dynamic. I fail to see the progressive part of this band, though - but when it does pop out of nowhere, it's too conspicuous and breaking with the mood set so far (like in "The Master").
"eNneagon" looks like a conceptually strong album, but ultimately it's the music that defines the quality. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Lithuanians' tunes - they're the result of balanced songwriting and clean execution. I'm just not too sure what kind of audience they're appealing to. The basic rockbeats, dulcet progressions and classic lead sections stir my inner musical instinct, but not enough to bump it into a state of rapture. It's your call on this one.
